Oneframe turns a spare Framework Laptop 12 mainboard into a compact desktop mounted behind a monitor like an imac. Match heat-set inserts to their manufacturer's recommended holes. The modeled holes are Ø4.1 × 4.3 mm for the M3 inserts and Ø3.3 × 4.3 mm for the M2 inserts. The button spring specification is 9.5 mm outside diameter, 8.5 mm inside diameter, 6 mm free length, solid height no more than 3.5 mm, and a target rate of 0.10–0.20 N/mm. Its installed length is 4.5 mm, reducing to 3.9 mm at the button stop. The selected real spring must return the button freely without binding or reaching solid height. Use the metal spacers and sleeves at the VESA interface. The printed bracket carries the enclosure as an accessory, a rated commercial stand supports the monitor and combined offset load. With the illustrative 4 mm stand plate and 1 mm washer, the external VESA screw stack is 27 mm. Add only the thread engagement allowed by your monitor's manual. Screw length is not universa l. Print each of the 16 required STL files once make sure unpowered! MAKE SURE YOU KEEP TRACK OF THE RETAINING CaP NUMBERS WHEN PRINTING! THEY MATTER! Pictures Below assembly instructions (scroll down) - join the two VESA bracket halves. Join the two halves at both half-lap interfaces. Use four M4 × 16 button-head screws, eight washers, and four M4 DIN 934 nuts. The screw heads face the rear and the nuts face the monitor. The parts are seperated here to make the joint easier to see. Only tighten the screws once the lap faces are fully seated. - Mount the bracket with the metal spacers and sleeves. Support the monitor as recommended in its manual. Stack the parts in this order, monitor rear, four 14 mm steel spacers, bracket with four 8 mm steel sleeves, commercial VESA stand plate, then four washers and correctly sized M4 screws. The pictured M4 × 35 mm screw length assumes a 4 mm stand plate, 1 mm washer, and 8 mm of permitted monitor engagement. Check the actual screw engagement on your monitor, since the example length will not work for every setup.Use the images from below if needed. - Prepare the empty tray and fit the four M3 inserts. Before positioning the spacers, install the four M3 heat-set inserts into the empty tray's cover pillars. Follow the installation instructions from your insert supplier. Let the tray cool completely and remove any plastic sticking out of the inserts. Keep all electronics out of the tray during this step. - Place case Spacers 1 through 4. Position the four printed four mm spacers over the carrier mounting holes. Then move directly to step 6 and seat the empty tray over them before installing the four screws. Keep the assembly supported so the spacers do not fall out. - Bolt the empty tray to the carrier. Seat the empty tray over the four case spacers and install four M4 × 25 screws from the inside. Add washers and four M4 DIN 934 nuts on the monitor-facing side. Keep the carrier and VESA backplate installed. Finish these joints before installing the mainboard. - Drop fIve M3 DIN 934 nuts into the tray pockets. Insert five plain M3 × 0.5 DIN 934 full hex nuts into the tray posts. Each nut should be 5.5 mm across flats and 2.4 mm high. The pockets are 5.7 mm across flats and 2.6 mm deep. Check that your actual nuts fit freely before assembly and do not force them into place. - Seat the ((( unpowered))) mainboard on its five collar supports. Disconnect all power before installing the board. Lower the board so that all five metal mounting collars sit on their circular supports. Keep the factory captive screws and insulating washers in place. Point the fan exhaust toward the outward-facing side opening. Make sure the fan cable is clear of the fifth post. The tray and mounting backplate stay installed. - Fit Board Retaining Cap 1 with one M3 × 8 screw Fit Board Retaining Cap 1 at the upper-left position when viewed from behind the monitor. Use one M3 × 8 socket button-head screw and a 2 mm hex key. Seat the cap against its stop post without bending the board or crushing the factory insulating washer. Only the cap and screw being installed are lifted in this image. The previously installed caps remain in place. - Fit Board retaining Cap 2 with one M3 × 8 screw. Fit Board Retaining Cap 2 at the upper-right position when viewed from behind the monitor. Use one M3 × 8 socket button-head screw and a 2 mm hex key. Seat the cap against its stop post without bending the board or crushing the factory insulating washer. - Fit Board Retaining Cap 3 with one M3 × 8 screw. Fit Board Retaining Cap 3 at the lower-right position when viewed from behind the monitor. Use one M3 × 8 socket button-head screw and a 2 mm hex key. Seat the cap against its stop post without bending the board or crushing the factory insulating washer. - Fit Board Retaining Cap 4 with one M3 × 8 screw. Fit Board Retaining Cap 4 at the lower-left position when viewed from behind the monitor. Use one M3 × 8 socket button-head screw and a 2 mm hex key. Seat the cap against its stop post without bending the board or crushing the factory insulating washer. - Fit Board Retaining Cap 5 with one M3 × 8 screw. Fit Board Retaining Cap 5 at the middle-left position when viewed from behind the monitor. Use one M3 × 8 socket button-head screw and a 2 mm hex key. Seat the cap against its stop post without bending the board or crushing the factory insulating washer. - Inside face, fit the two M2 inserts. Start with the cover removed from the computer. Identify the inside face by the two raised guide posts next to the round button hole. Install the two M2 inserts into these posts, let them cool, and remove any plastic sticking out of the inserts. Keep this same inside face toward you for step 15. - Inside face, insert the nut-pocket end first. Stay on the inside face, with the two guide posts visible. Feed the plunger's nut-pocket end through the round cover hole toward the outside. The wide retaining flange and small switch-contact tip should stay inside on the board side. Do not push the small contact tip through the cover - Seated check This is the same inside view after the plunger has been inserted. The wide flange should rest against the inside face of the cover. The small contact tip should still point toward the board, with the two raised guide posts visible beside it. Only the nut-pocket end should stick through to the outside. Hold the plunger in this position while turning the cover over for step 16. - Turn the cover over and load the M3 nut. Turn the cover over so you are now looking at the outside face. The guide posts should be behind the cover. Hold the plunger in place from the inside and place the sixth plain M3 × 0.5 DIN 934 nut into the exposed hex pocket. The nut should be 5.5 mm across flats and 2.4 mm high. The next step attaches the finger pad. - Attach the finger pad with one M3 × 8 screw. Fit the Ø20 mm finger pad over the protruding shaft and secure it with one M3 × 8 socket button-head screw. Use a 2 mm hex key. The screw and nut hold the moving parts together. They do not fasten the button to the cover. - Turn the cover back inside and add the return spring. After securing the finger pad, turn the cover back to its inside face. Slide the spring over the small contact tip and onto the shaft, against the wide flange. The recommended spring is OD 9.5 mm, ID 8.5 mm, with a 6 mm free length, solid height of 3.5 mm or less, and a spring rate of 0.10 to 0.20 N/mm. Continue with the guide installation and return check. - Secure the spring guide with two M2 × 6 screws. Fit the spring guide over the tip, making sure the spring is seated correctly. Attach the guide to the two cover posts using two M2 × 6 button-head screws. Check the drive size of the M2 screws you got. The small screw shown in the render uses a 1.27 mm hex socket. Make sure the spring is not trapped underneath the guide. - Check free movement, return, and the hard stop. With the cover still off the board, check that the plunger moves freely and returns fully when released. The nominal travel is 0.60 mm, with an 8.0 mm shaft running in 8.6 mm bores. The underside of the pad should meet the cover at the stop. Remove any burrs that could cause binding. Do not use a stiffer spring to compensate for a mechanical problem. - Offer up(combine ) the complete cover and check the switch gap. Carefully offer up the completed cover up to the board while the board is still unpowered. Check that the tip does not preload the switch and that the switch clicks and releases before the hard stop. Sand tip Slightly if not working (try to be careful since may need to be reprinted if done too much, or you can add like tape onto the tip to give it some more depth to touch the power button) - Secure the cover with four M3 × 10 screws. Once the button has been checked and calibrated and you have confirmed that all cables can move freely, seat the cover and install the four M3 × 10 socket button-head screws. Tighten them evenly and avoid distorting the printed cover. Test the button again after tightening. (Reference for below pictures) \/
