Beskrivelse

Hey, I'm Foxwood! If you like my work, be sure to follow me for more design in the future! This 3D printed lamp is inspired by Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking technique known for its intricate, interlocking geometric patterns. Historically used in shoji screens and decorative panels, Kumiko has also been a medium for expressing natural imagery—such as waves, flora, and even celestial scenes. This lamp brings that craftsmanship into the world of 3D printing, allowing makers to explore pattern, light, and personal creativity. Customizable Patterns The lamp is built from a central frame that holds a series of removable panels. Each panel is designed to accept individual Kumiko-style inserts, so you can create your own visual compositions. The current insert pattern is Asanoha (hemp leaf), a traditional motif symbolizing strength and growth. More patterns are planned for future updates to offer even more creative flexibility. You can also play with different filament colors for the inserts—combining geometry and color to build flowing visuals, abstract forms, or themed imagery. Print Considerations Printing the panels and inserts is a time-consuming process, and due to their small surface areas, careful preparation is key. Make sure your build plate is clean and properly leveled to ensure good adhesion. While it takes patience, the process is also very therapeutic and rewarding as the pieces come together into a unique, glowing structure. An optional inner shade is included and should be printed in vase mode for a soft, diffused lighting effect. The Kumiko inserts come with their own print profile and are currently set to print 100 at a time. This isn’t a full set, but it’s a practical batch size to get started and experiment with different layouts. This design uses BT3x8 BHCS Self Tapping Screws to attach the stand and top. Share Your Work I'd love to see what you create with this design. Please upload a photo of your completed lamp and your insert arrangements—whether you follow traditional patterns, explore colorful variations, or invent something entirely new. I’m excited to see the creativity this inspires. If you like this model you may also like Foxwood Studio - Check it out here!
