These measuring tools will ensure that your pinewood derby car will pass inspection. Cars must be within these dimensions: Length - No more than 7 inches. Width - No more than 2 ¾ inches. Height - No more than 3 inches. Clearance - At least 3/8 of an inch. These tools will verify that your car fits within those parameters. It will also check the fit for a rail width of 1 5/8 inches. Check to verify that the rules for your race are the same. The two small blocks are for checking ground clearance. If the car will roll over the block, it will pass the clearance test. You may need to sand the bed texture off the bottom to make the block exactly 3/8 of an inch. The cars pictured here are antiques from my childhood days as a scout.
