This is my attempt at creating a set of cases that are the X and Y dimensions of Gridfinity, that fit perfectly into the grid system along side other Gridfinity bins and accessories! The larger case has an internal 3x3 internal Gridfinity base system, while the smaller case has a 2x3 base system internally. Both cases have a 4x1 footprint to fit into a Grdfinity base plate. Each case has 2 extra side compartments for storing other items. The cases fit a stack of 2 Grid Unit high bins or a single 4 Unit high bins. The cases open by a single push button latch release, with a friction latch on the opposite side to keep the lid locked down allowing for a single finger action to unlock the case and lift up on the lid, releasing the friction latch. The main features include: - 3x3 and 2x3 internal grid storage - 42mm x 42mm X and Y dimensions for use with the Gridfinity standard - 2 additional side storage compartments - Single push button latch to unlock the cases - 3 sided removable labels for easy identification that slide in or can be glued - The hinge can either be a standard 1.75 filament or 4x M2x12mm screws - 2 Unit stackable and 4 Unit internal sizing for bins - Both large and small cases can fit inside an IKEA Alex large drawer Assembly: Hinges: For use of filament for the hinge, push the filament through each hole on the hinges before trying to push the filament through the entire hinge when both lids are together. This will kind of bore the hole out for any sagging of the hole. Standard 1.75mm filament is needed. If using screws, its fine to just send the screws through. I use four M2x12mm screws. Latches: The Plate that is labeled 4.9 Standard, is the standard sizing for the stem of the latches to fit the holes. It should be a tight snug friction fit. Push the latch stem all the way into he hole until you can not any more. If you find the standard plate is too tight for your print, go down a size to the next 4.8 plate. If you find the you are in between sizes, print the latches with the smaller stems, you might need to apply CA glue to secure them in. The latch with the dimples is the main locking latch that goes into the left side of the box. The other is the friction lock latch that has a rounded top allowing it to snap into an indent on the right side of the box. It is rounded enough to have to pull up on the lid, after pressing the latch button, to release and it also will secure the right side down when closed. You may have to lightly bend the latches outwards once they are seated in their holes. this will give them a more secure fit when locking into place. Labels: The labels are designed to wedge into place. If need be, you can use a light glue or glue stick to keep them more secure. There are 3 sides for labels depending on how you store the cases. Bins: The max bin size is 4 Units tall. I have included premade bins with dividers and labels that are both 2 Units tall and 4 Units tall. the 2 Unit bins can be stacked inside the cases. Becarful if you use a Grdfinity generator to make bins. I have found that not all generators make the same height of bins. I have used the dimensions of the original Gridfinity bins for this project. Note: *This is an evolving project. Hopefully more can come from this!
