A quick and inexpensive leaf blocker for the downspout that you can print yourself I needed leaf guards for five of our 70mm rain pipes, but I could only find (rather expensive) models designed for 80mm PVC rain pipes, and using two 70-to-80mm reducers per pipe would have been quite costly. Besides, it wouldn’t have looked very nice. Since I didn’t find much that was useful among the existing models, I decided to design something myself that I could print in multiple parts using PETG. With my model the rack, which is mounted at an angle, can simply be printed flat on the print bed. And by positioning the tube sections correctly, no support material is needed for the entire print. The mesh rack already locks into the “tilt” of the lower section, but can be glued if desired. The upper and lower parts, which each slide over the opening in the downspout, also fit securely enough for me to assemble them without glue. The leaf catchers—which I deliberately didn’t print in boring gray—have been working perfectly for some time now. I use the 3D prints for 70mm downspouts, but they were, of course, easily scaled up to a model for 80mm pipes, which is also available.
