PTFE Slider for Elegoo Canvas / Multi-Color Systems A simple solution to one of multi-color printing's most annoying problems: filament tangles inside the dry box. Purpose The PTFE Slider is designed to prevent filament tangles inside dry boxes and enclosed spool storage systems during the frequent retraction and loading cycles of multi-color printing. When large amounts of filament are retracted during color changes, loose loops can form inside the dry box. These loops may cross over each other, increasing drag and potentially causing tangles, feeding issues, or print failures.Its a simple solution to avoid, when filament retract the Ptfe tube simple slides inside this tube avoiding tangle inside the dry box and still inhibits the exposure of the filament to outside air. How It Works The slider assembly is mounted directly beneath the Elegoo Canvas and connected to the PTFE tubes. As filament moves during color changes, the PTFE tubes slide inside the printed guide channels: - During filament retraction, the PTFE tube slides downward inside the slider. - During filament loading, the PTFE tube slides upward inside the slider. - The movement of the PTFE tube absorbs the filament displacement created by the retraction and loading cycles. - Because the filament remains constrained within the PTFE path, loose loops are prevented from forming inside the dry box. The result is a controlled filament path from spool to Canvas, even during thousands of retraction cycles. The PTFE Slider takes the opposite approach: the filament remains guided while the PTFE tube itself moves to accommodate retraction and loading travel . By transferring movement from the filament to the PTFE tube, the system minimizes the possibility of tangled loops and maintains consistent filament feeding throughout the print. Printing Recommendations The PTFE Slider has been designed to print easily on most modern FDM printers. Recommended Materials - PLA - PETG Both materials provide sufficient strength and rigidity for normal operation. PETG may offer slightly better durability in warmer environments. Recommended Print Settings - Print at moderate to slow speeds for the best tube straightness and surface quality. - Use a brim to improve bed adhesion and stabilize the tall guide tubes during printing. - Ensure adequate cooling when printing PLA. - Avoid excessive print speeds, as the long vertical tubes can vibrate and reduce dimensional accuracy. For best results, a 5–10 mm brim is recommended, especially on printers with high acceleration settings. Notes The guide tubes are intentionally tall and slender to provide smooth PTFE tube travel. While they print without supports, using a brim greatly improves stability and reduces the risk of print failure caused by movement in the upper sections during printing. This design was developed specifically to improve the reliability of multi-color printing from a dry box, where repeated filament retractions can otherwise create loose loops and tangles.
