Beskrivelse

SP17: Rolling Ball Clock is my largest and most exciting clock. It is powered entirely using 3/4" (19mm) steel balls. Runtime is 38 hours with an accuracy of 1-2 minutes per week. A manual winding mechanism lifts the balls back to the top. Update 16-Jul-2026: Updated the Z-height of ball_drop9.stl. Please download a new copy of this file. No other stl files appear to be affected. The overall size is 9.15x10.75x33.5" (23x27x85cm). It prints in around 120 hours on a SnapMaker U1 using 5kg of PLA. The minimum required print bed size is 250x210mm (Prusa MK4) or 220x220mm (Ender 3). YouTube description: https://youtu.be/o2_N6vdyZAQ The 64 page assembly guide can be downloaded before purchase at https://www.stevesclocks.com/sp17 The clock is engineered for reliability and ease of assembly. Despite its size, it is relatively easy to assemble. The non-printed bill of materials is quite small. You will need some 3/4" steel balls, 28" of 1/2" EMT conduit (or other metal tubing with an OD of 15-20mm), two sizes of screws, two sizes of metal rods, and two sizes of ball bearings. A complete description is in the assembly guide. Parts kits for everything except the balls and EMT conduit are available at https://www.etsy.com/listing/4537820134 This clock is loud. The metal balls make noise as they roll along the tracks and bump into each other. The steel balls are a unique power source, but they make more noise than a weight on a string. Update 13-Jul-2026: Added multiple sized spiral lifting components to support tubing sizes between 15mm and 20mm. 1/2" ETM should use spiral_lift_*_18mm.
