puzzle children magic simple

Beskrivelse

Inspiration This is inspired by a puzzle that was made by my Great Grandpa. He of course made his from wood, but it works the same. It’s a simple beginner’s puzzle made for children. Grandpa would tell us to find the coin inside and after a few minutes of failed attempts he would carefully show how to open the puzzle, using the rotation of the top pieces as clever distraction. He did this so well, it still had us puzzled after he opened it. The Widow's Offering The story of the Widow’s Offering can be found in the Gospel of Mark at the end of chapter 12. It illustrates how things may not be as they seem. In the story, the crowd was giving offerings out of their wealth; however, the widow - who was supposed to be cared for by others - gave two small copper pieces. She gave everything she had to live on out of faith. In the story, Jesus does not tell his disciples to follow her example, rather he exposes how love for a system can overshadow love for the people which the system was meant to protect. Printing I've been printing these with four wall loops to give it a sturdier feel, and 15% infill with .16 layer height. It prints in about 45 minutes on the Bambu X2D. Assembly Assembly can be done in under a minute. It requires two #4-40 TPI ¾” machine screws, or something similar to hold it together. I found mine at Home Depot. Starting with the bottom plate insert the pin into the square opening. Next place the middle plate, and the two top rotating plates. Carefully thread the screws, making sure they aren’t at an angle - this will affect how smoothly it rotates. That’s it! Depending on your printer the pin may need some filing in order to let gravity do its work. Lastly, fill it with a dime or two and you’re all set. The Trick The puzzle is opened by inverting it while the larger rotating top plate is in the closed position. While inverted, rotate the larger plate to move the pin out of the way, and then turn the puzzle the right way up before sliding the middle plate and rotating it to expose the coins. It’s up to you how you would like to use the rotation of the top plates as a distraction for your audience!
