I picked up a cheap rifle scope at a garage sale for $5 and wanted a fun way to play around with it so I created just enough rifle to mount the scope. Modelled after a Browning BL-22 and fits a scope with a 26mm tube. The scope I purchased was a Simmons 4x32. I used brass heat set inserts (because I could) but they are only really necessary for the actual scope mount. Otherwise, something like Shoe Goo would work as the adhesive.
