This is a model of the original World Trade Center Twin Towers in 1:500 scale, created for the 25th anniversary. It is not simplified, in that it recreates all 58 exterior columns per side and all 20,000+ windows per tower. I added lights inside but this is optional. Each tower is made up of 12 rectangular plates that print flat on a build plate, plus inner and outer corners along with roofs and an optional lobby, along with an optional canopy for the North Tower street level entrance. This post does not include the files for the rest of the World Trade Center complex, but rather just the towers. For each tower, print 4 each of the files labeled top tier, middle tier, and lower tier. That means 12 rectangular plates per tower. The "no windows" folder contains the files if you want to print the tower without windows cut out for the lights to shine through. There are multiple versions of plate for the top tier with windows cut out, because they have different window patterns cut out of them. This is so that the lights in each tower are not identical. I ran out of patience for cutting out windows and trying to get the files to still slice without errors, and decided to just mirror some of the plates in Cura in order to create new patterns. As for slicing, it can be hard to get the slicer software to cooperate to get each plate to slice properly. I used Cura, and have included the Cura profile I used in a .zip folder. I recommend you use Cura, use the profile, and add the "test" file to your build plate along with the plates you intend to print in order for the model to slice correctly. I've included a picture of what a properly sliced model looks like in Cura. I printed everything on an Elegoo Neptune 3 Plus and did manual color changes, using a standard .4 nozzle. I used generic Black PLA for the body of the plates, Geetech matte dark grey for the separations between floors, CHING LUENG Silk Metal for the facade. The diffuser tubes are printed in white PLA and are glued inside the tower to diffuse the light from LED lights strips. Your results may vary, and this is not an easy model to make. Feel free to ask questions because I know my instructions are scant and I'm sure I'm missing something. Once you have the plates printed, glue them end-to-end to create sides of each tower. Once you have the sides made, you can use the corner pieces to join them together, which is the file named "corner_long". Each of them covers half of one corner of the building. To help with alignment and strength, you can use corner pieces on the inside of the tower too, glued to the back of each plate along the edge so the neighboring plate has more to butt up against. Printing this model at 100% scale is recommended, as details will be lost otherwise. If you intend to scale up, I recommend using "corner_small" as your corner pieces because they have more accurate detail that may show up at larger scales. Because I wanted the light to be able to shine through the tridents at the bottom of the tower, I printed them separately and then glued them to bottom of the bottom portions of the tower. I then used pieces of clear plastic to glue to the back of the tridents to create clear windows. The rest of the windows in the tower were tinted glass. I used magnets to attach the tower roof, because I used micro LEDs and a Pi Pico to make pulsing red beacons on the to of the towers.
