Beskrivelse

Moon Phase Explorer | Mechanical STEM Model Discover why the Moon appears to change shape throughout the month with the Moon Phase Explorer : a fully 3D-printable mechanical learning model designed especially for younger learners. Turn the Sun to move the Moon around Earth and watch its illuminated side remain directed toward the Sun. As its position changes, the model introduces the basic lunar phases, including the new moon, crescents, quarter moons, gibbous moons and full moon. The model combines two approachable STEM subjects in one playful product: - Astronomy: Explore how the relative positions of the Sun, Earth and Moon create the lunar phases we observe. - Mechanics: Watch the exposed printed gears transfer motion and rotate in different directions as the model is operated. The visible mechanism encourages children to look behind the movement and discover how gears work together. No electronics, magnets or additional hardware are required—every functional component can be produced on a 3D printer. What it demonstrates - The Moon’s orbit around Earth - The basic stages of the lunar cycle - How the Moon’s illuminated half remains directed toward the Sun - The positions associated with new, quarter and full moons - How meshing gears transfer and change rotational motion - How a simple mechanism coordinates multiple moving parts Its upright format makes the model suitable for desks, classrooms and hands-on science demonstrations. Large, colourful components and simple manual operation make otherwise abstract ideas easier for younger learners to explore. Multiple interchangeable Earth designs are included, allowing makers to choose a Europe-, Americas- or Asia-centred view. Please note that the sizes and distances of the celestial bodies are intentionally not to scale. They have been enlarged and repositioned to make the mechanism printable, durable and easy to understand. ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS: - Place the Earth gear over the backmount. - Insert the aseembly into the model base. - Glue the moon into the moon plate. - From the front of the base, insert the moon plate into the earth gear. - Press your desired earth variant onto the exposed cross on the front side. - From the back, insert the sun gear and put on the sun itself from the front side of the base. - Insert the middle gear on the back using the middle gear mount. - Place the assembly on the two feet to have it stand upright. (Optional) Print it, turn the mechanism and explore how both the Moon and the machine move!
