Beskrivelse
The following two additions to Lrplana's "Simple Soldering Iron Stand" were developed due to the fact that the springs I could find were 17mm shorter (hence less travel) and that I had some items to put heat set inserts into that were too tall for the head room as designed. The additions consist of two extension for the top end of the springs and an extended base unit. After making the base unit it dawned on me that it would have been quicker and simpler to just use a block of wood! Some notes on the two items: Base: The tall base unit is hollow, so I printed it upright and used slim tree supports to support the top of the inside hollow. The mounting holes are sized for #6 wood screws (.140" dia). Spring Extensions: They are handed L and R due to the fact that one side of the cross hole for the M3 screw, which retains the spring, is smaller for tapping M3 to retain the screw. If the tapped hole is replaced by a heat set insert, the hole is positioned 3.5mm up from the bottom, 6mm in from the end, and is 6.25mm long. The unit, as designed, is 130mm long, 3.5mm thick and 14mm wide. The raised portion for the spring is 8mm high by 12mm long and the slot for the spring is 1.5mm wide and 9mm deep, centred on the 14mm width. The whole unit can be shortened or lengthened if desired. The 3mm clearance holes for the screws to secure the extensions to the upright are centred on the 14m width, and are spaced 15mm apart with the first one being 18mm from the spring end to align with the threaded insert at the top of the column. All the 3mm clearance holes are drawn as 3.1mm diameter and may have to be changed depending on how accurately your printer prints holes (I had to increase then to 3.4mm for my printer). I printed all three in PLA with two wall loops and 15% in fill. I also made three thumb screws for securing the spring extensions to the upright and the iron clamp, but M3 screws would do just as well, although not quite so convenient. I like to have as few extra tools as possible when using any device.
