Beskrivelse
Hello and welcome everyone coming in from the featured design page. TL;DR: This is less 'another whistle' but an activism kit for vulnerable communities affected by general indifference. If you are looking for "the loudest whisle": This is not it. It's more a kit for small activism groups to get emergency whistles into the hand of as many people as possible. Why another whistle? I designed this whistle from scratch because I wanted to have a whistle design that is Creative Commons Non-Commercial Licensed and available to the community. While it looks similar to other designs, and I admit I have designed it in a shape I liked in many other designs, the measurements, fipple, chambers and labium have been designed from scratch to not infringe on anyone's rights. The design did start out from scratch. After being in several situations where I was in danger and not noticed by passers by (or they conveniently did not notice me) I wanted a whistle to be available that is small, cheap to make, low barrier of entry and available to everyone. That next time people have a harder time justifying looking the other way. How loud is it, then? I did not measure yet how loud it is but it was just as loud (perceived) as other designs that I tried. The design has 4 resonance chambers of slightly different sizes, producing a very noticeable interference pattern that should carry in large buildings as well as the open air. A pleasant side effect was that several of my noise cancelling headphones - while they reduced the volume noticeably - had a hard time filtering the tone out (while they did a better job with monotone whistles) Terms of use About "Commercial Use" and how I interpret it: Feel free to distribute these at events. It's OK for me if you ask for a non-mandatory reasonable donation to recuperate the costs of making them. It is more important to me to get them into peoples hands. I myself distribute these at some events (or plan to) and think it is reasonable to ask for about 0.60Euro from those who can pat that. let that be your guideline. They weigh about 3 grams in PLA. This device is NOT allowed to be used for causes promoting hatred or bigotry in extension of the Thingiverse terms of service. If you are planning to use or modify this design or derivations of it for that cause, please look somewhere else. You are not granted a permission to use this file. A link to this design page is enough attribution. I don't want credit, I want this thing in as many hands as possible. Marketing kit You can use the display and the flyers provided with the design to make it easier to give these away. The flyer is designed to duplex-print in German and English. The Display holds 36 pieces and there is a slot to hold the flyers. There are two 9.5mm holes in the display to hold Stabilo pens - maybe bic pens work as well so you can support the flyers or can install a makeshift holder. For keychain rings I recommend 25mm flat rings. They seem to be the sweet spot between price and convenience. Printing Materials The image shows variants made from PLA and PETG in 0.16mm layers (including the base layer). Both work very well. Don't worry too much about tiny obstructions in the air paths. In my testing they did not make that much of a difference. Try out one of a printed batch to confirm. Please be careful and refrain from using these to harm creatures of all kinds outside of emergencies. They might also harm your own hearing. These produce a VERY LOUD tone. YMMV Changelog 2026-07-15 - 9:00 CEST Uploaded new 3mf files for the whistle that contain the original short version and one that is a bit longer. They sound the same in my tests, the longer one will likely take over. The shorter design will remain online. I also added a tiny valley so it is easier to intuitively find the right way to hold it between the lips. Added notice to the top of the flyer about it not being a toy so it is visible while the flyers are presented in the display
